Deg xiqi xinatr’iditlghusr Conversational Deg Xinag

Plan for 10/9/01 class

A{ixi antr’ixixidili’anh. We learn with each other.

Student goals for the semester: Make sure that you have emailed to Alice your  response to this question:  How will you know when you’ve reached your goals? It is important to me that I receive your response.  I plan to share everyone’s ideas via email but I don’t want to talk about this in class because I want to limit our use of English during our precious time with Elders.

Greetings:

Ade’. [Hello]

Ndadz dengit’a? [How are you?]

Ngidenax? [And you?]

Ndagh dhedo? [Where are you?] answer: “…dhisdo.”

Q’iydong ndagh ghingdo’? [Where were you yesterday?] “ …ghisdo.”

Venhdida’ ndagh tedo{? [Where will you be tomorrow?]   “…tasdo{” [I will be in…]

Ni’egh ndadz dixet’a?[How’s the weather?] Figure this out before class to be ready with the answer.  Ask yourself this question every time you go outside and answer in Deg Xinag with the appropriate conditions. If you don’t know what to say in Deg Xinag, ask during class so that we all can learn.

Q'iydong ndadz dixighet'a'? [What was the weather yesterday?]

Dran ndadz dangit’an’? [What did you do today?]

Ndadz ditet’e{. [What are you going to do tomorrow?] Find out the future form of the verb that you want.  …q’otasineyh [I’ll be working at ....]

GRAMMAR:

Git’on’ ditidhiq’onh.

Leaves are turning color. [burning]

Information on page 68 in the Deg Xinag axa Nixodhi{ Ts’in’ Verb Lessons suggests that the –t- in ditidhiq’onh may be a ‘qualifier prefix’ indicating something is just starting to happen.  This is called “inceptive” mode.  Also the –dh- may be a ‘conjugaton prefix’ found in words that mean movement to a point.   Compare:

Git’on’ deq’onh.

Leaves are turning color. [burning]
